ALTA offers six language-neutral on-demand CEU courses for medical interpreters: Note-Taking (4 CEUs, $100), Interpreting Register: Navigating Differing Levels of Formality (2 CEUs, $60), Understanding and Improving Memory for the Medical Interpreter (3 CEUs, $80), Self-Care for Medical Interpreters: Coping with Burnout, Vicarious Trauma and Compassion Fatigue (2 CEUs, $60), Scripts for Sticky Situations (1 CEU, $35), and Psychiatric Interviews: The Impact of Language (1 CEU, $35). Spanish-speaking interpreters can also access two additional courses: Lexical and Syntactic Ambiguity (1 CEU, $35) and The Anatomy of Profanity (1 CEU, $35).
Yes. ALTA offers one-on-one live medical interpretation coaching sessions, each worth 1 CEU credit and priced at $65. Live coaching is available in 16 languages: Arabic, Bangla, Burmese, Cantonese, French, Haitian Creole, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Nepali, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Turkish. These sessions pair interpreters with an experienced professional in their target language for real-time interpretation practice.
Yes. All of ALTA’s continuing education programs for medical interpreters, including on-demand courses, self-directed interpretation practice, and live coaching sessions, are available fully online. Certified interpreters can complete their required CEU hours from home, on a schedule that fits around their work.
No. ALTA recommends against purchasing a CEU bundle for interpreters who have already completed either the 80-Hour Medical Interpreter Training or the National Oral Exam Prep Course. Some course material overlaps between those programs and the CEU bundles, so purchasing them together would mean paying for content twice.
ALTA’s individual CEU courses for medical interpreters range from $35 for a 1-CEU course to $100 for a 4-CEU course. Self-directed interpretation practice courses, which earn 6 CEUs, are $100 each. For interpreters who need to meet a larger portion of their renewal requirement, ALTA’s three bundled packages start at $355 for 13 CEUs and go up to $445 for 21 CEUs, saving up to $150 compared to purchasing courses individually.
